Weekend 7/2 Treble | Jack Wright
I am taking Wrexham to extend their extraordinary home record as they welcome League One strugglers Cambridge United to the Racecourse Ground. Phil Parkinson's side have transformed their home pitch into a fortress taking 28 points from a possible 30 this season and winning 12 of an unbeaten 13 fixtures across all competitions this term. The Red Dragons 1-0 defeat of Burton last weekend was a fourth successive victory without conceding a goal and moved them level on points with Wycombe Wanderers at the top of the division. They then made it five wins to nil with a 1-0 defeat of Crewe in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday.
Next up are the league's worst travellers with Cambridge losing seven of their nine road trips in the league this term. The U's ended a run of six games without a win in defeating Shrewsbury last weekend but returned to losing ways when exiting the EFL Trophy at lower league Cheltenham on Tuesday.
Scott Lindsey's managerial transformation of MK Dons has been breathtaking. Having inherited a side languishing in 19th position, Lindsey, who won promotion with relegation favourites Crawley last season, has orchestrated an immediate climb into playoff contention, just three points from the automatic positions with two games in hand. Six consecutive league victories, with three goals scored in five of those matches, illustrate a team that has discovered both momentum and a free scoring nature.
Gillingham arrive in stark contrast having lost eight of their last 12 games and although recording two wins in that sequence both of those were at home. The Dons will be determined to record another victory here and get points on the board knowing those games in hand represent tricky midweek assignments far from home.
Walsall sit top of League 2 after a statement win over Port Vale last weekend - a side that were leaders ahead of the match. The Saddlers have 37 points from 18 games, enjoying a two-point advantage over Vale and four points to Doncaster in third having played a game less than both rivals. Their home record is dominant. More points per game than any rival, coupled with a league-leading 20 goals in nine home outings. Mat Sadler flexed his ability to rotate the squad while maintaining competitive intensity during their midweek EFL Trophy performance against Reading. Showing resilience to score a last second leveller before going on to win on penalties.
Barrow arrive with the kind of away record that suggests they are there for the taking. Only eight points won on the road and six losses in their last eight away trips. They appear ill-equipped to challenge the leaders who are confident in outscoring any rival.
