Watford’s surprisingly impressive Championship campaign has been built on home comforts. No side has picked up more points on home soil than the fifth placed Hornets who have won seven of their eight league games at Vicarage Road and nine of ten in all competitions - the last three coming by the same 1-0 scoreline.

With just two points from eleven matches and a staggering 32 goals conceded, they appear to be operating a level above their ability regularly being made to look out of their depth. What’s more both those points came in home fixtures, and they have been soundly beaten in all six road trips to date. They are conceding at an average of 3.17 goals per away game and face an Augsburg side that have scored multiple goals in five of their six home matches.

Diego Simeone's men have rediscovered their devastating form, stringing together six consecutive victories across all competitions. The midweek 6-0 demolition of Sparta Prague in the Champions League was a statement of intent. As has often been their way Atleti had demonstrated their grit and determination last weekend in grinding out a come from behind 2-1 defeat of Alaves. They will be expecting to make it a magnificent seven up against La Liga’s rock-bottom outfit.

Valladolid have mustered just two wins from their opening 14 league games and suffered an abject loss to fellow strugglers Getafe last Friday night. Only two sides sit above the Rojiblancos in the table, and both have played Valladolid already. The gulf clearly demonstrated by and aggregate scoreline of 10-0 across those two games. Simeone is not one to let opponents off lightly and he will expect his side to pour more misery on the hosts with a win that would at least temporarily see them leapfrog their city rivals up into second place.
