Karl Burke has enjoyed a fantastic couple of months at all levels, and his exciting juvenile looked a high-class prospect when winning in soft ground on his debut at Hamilton last month (heavily backed 6/5f and stormed clear readily under a confident ride from Clifford Lee).

He is miles up in class here fast-tracked into Group Two company, but the yard has plenty to measure him against at home in the two-year-old division and the faster ground assured on Thursday would be a positive to his chances of taking this valuable prize back to the north.

John and Thady Gosden’s quirky but talented stayer returned to winning form under a very canny, patient ride at Sandown last time out (winning on the nod in a very tight finish) and makes plenty of each-way appeal at a double-figure price for this marathon 2m4f test of stamina.

He should get a decent gallop to aim at here, and his relatively smart turn of foot in these staying events should be a real asset in the closing stages under regular rider Rab Havlin.

The Gosden’s progressive filly was far from disgraced in a warm contest at Lingfield last month (despite looking ill at ease on the unique undulations) and remains with the potential to improve over middle distances after just four career starts for her excellent connections.

This flatter, more galloping track seems sure to suit her, with the prevailing fast ground no negative and her current price making plenty of each-way appeal under Kieran Shoemark (with the front of the market looking vulnerable).
