Stephen Harris’ Racing Tips at Newmarket, Ascot and Chester
Stephen Harris's Saturday Racing Tips at Newmarket, Ascot and Chester
William Knight’s scopey filly went straight into the notebook when finishing second on her racecourse debut over this course and distance last month, finishing with running left in the tank having run green in rear off a slow break (unusually strong in the market and evidently held in high regard at home by her astute connections).
She is entitled to improve dramatically on that initial experience (yard not known at all for first time out winners), and Jim Crowley will be looking to quicken clear late from a promising field of expensive juveniles.
Andrew Balding continues in blistering form with 11 winners in the last fortnight, and his unexposed stayer looks sure to relish a step into handicaps for the first time at Ascot on Saturday. He has won one of his three starts so far on the turf, improving run to run with racing experience, and looked one to follow when landing hefty support in a Goodwood maiden last month.
He now has Oisin Murphy replacing a three lb claimer in the saddle and can continue his upwardly mobile profile by taking this valuable prize.
Patrick Morris’s battle-hardened performer has thrived on a really busy schedule this summer and looked one to keep on side of again when very unlucky at Newbury last time out (repeatedly blocked in when beginning to pick up strongly under the promising five lb claimer Rhys Elliott).
He will need to be a lot more positive at this sharply turning track but should be able to secure a handy early pitch and his proven stamina will count for plenty up the straight.
