William Muir and Chris Grassick ended a quiet spell with a welcome winner last week, and their progressive handicapper deserves extra credit for maintaining his form at a time when many stable companions struggled.
He looked a shade unlucky in the run when a cracking third at Ascot last time out and has optimum conditions here to return to his best under regular rider Lewis Edmunds.
Karl Burke continues in red hot form as the busy midsummer period continues, with nine winners in the last fortnight, and his handicapper has slipped down to an attractive mark after a slightly disappointing season so far. He dropped a big hint that he was coming right when a creditable second at the Curragh in June, and simply pulled too hard duelling on the lead when disappointing at Newmarket last time out.
A more patient ride is on the cards here from Clifford Lee, and this idiosyncratic undulating track could well spark him back into winning form.
Mick Appelby’s sprinter has been notably strong in the market on all his recent runs this summer (from an attractive handicap mark after losing his form) and can finally deliver for his patient followers at Goodwood on Thursday.
A strong pace seems certain with several confirmed trailblazers in the line-up for this competitive contest, and he can weave his way through late under the excellent Tom Marquand if seeing any daylight in the closing stages.
