He’s short, but it’s deserved as he has 15 wins from 18 runs. His defeats come at the hands of the mighty Constitution Hill in the Supreme, an on-form El Fabiolo in the Arkle, and then when he made a howling race-stopping error and mistake to just be denied in a Clarence House.
He’s won four from four here at Sandown, including when bagging this race last season. He has multiple wins over the re-opposing Boothill and last year’s runner-up Edwardstone and, unless Quilixious can show something that the others haven’t been able to do, then it’s his to win again.
He loves it here at Aintree and can gain another success at the course. He last won off this mark over course-and-distance on heavy going, by an easy 14 lengths. He was beaten fairly in a Grade Three after, but that was behind Shakem Up’Arry, Frero Banbou, and Al Dancer.
He’s a course specialist, who will handle the ground, and is back on his last winning mark having ran well when fourth in the Grand Sefton here on reappearance.
He’s always looked a stayer with potential for more, I think he might start to show it now. He’s competed in a Welsh National, a Grand National Trial at Haydock, and a Scottish National.
He reappeared at Carlisle this season, again staying on well, but looking in need of the run. He was second beaten a neck off a five-pound higher mark and is untouched for that third place last-time-out.
His team is in form, he may be ready to strike again but looks the each way play in the race.
