The quicker the ground the better for Celtic Dino, who’s trainer rather amusing remarked that he can barely walk on soft or heavy ground this week.
That leads me to forgive his run at Aintree on Boxing Day in the Grade 1 when he was only 4th, but prior to that he had looked like a top novice hurdler when thrashing Ma Shantou (130) by 14 lengths on debut, before beating Wade Out (128) and Joyeuse (136) at Ascot in an Introductory Hurdle. Back on some quicker ground, I can see him land this Grade 2 which connections won last year.
Having backed him for the Ultima, I will be quite upset to see him run here, but Lowry’s Bar surely has outstanding claims if the rain arrives.
This Hobbs and White charge was 2nd behind Jagwar (139) on Chase debut, but after that he racked up a quick double at Exeter and Chepstow over trips of 2m3f. Stepped up to 3m for the first time in the Grade 2 Hampton Novice Chase last time out however, he was going very well before making a mistake at the 3rd last which allowed Jingko Blue (151) to capitalise. Only a 2.25 length defeat reads very well all things considered, and off 148 he has a big Handicap in him.
At the end of last season, I thought that Your Own Story was extremely unlucky at the Punchestown Festival – where over 3m7½f he was only collared on the line.
That effort saw his mark raised to 130, but after finishing a credible 6th in the Welsh National at Chepstow over Christmas he has now been dropped back down to a mark of 127 – just 2lbs higher than that very good Punchestown run. Patrick Wadge jumps back aboard for the first time since that trip to Ireland too, and I think he’s crying out for a stamina test like the Eider.
