Hexham – CHOOSE A COPPER

This looks like a nice Novice Handicap Chase for the time of year, and the likes of Cannock Park and Bertie’s Ballet will certainly be on my radar for future races. On the drying ground however I think it will pay to side with Choose A Copper, who I think is an exciting recruit to the Chasing ranks.

At this meeting 12 months ago, he won on the 2m Novice Hurdle on his debut for Lucinda Russell, and after that he went to Sandown when finishing third behind Booster Bob (121) and Helnwein (126) in a Listed Novice Hurdle at Sandown. He suffered with wind issues during the depths of winter but had that issue rectified in March, and he ended his campaign with a good second to Rambo T (134+) at Perth. He looks a Chaser all over and should go well on Chase debut off a mark of 117.

This is an open enough Handicap Chase, but with Editeur Du Gite (158) in here making the weights I think it will really suit Jetoile.

This Ryan Potter gelding began his season 12 months ago by winning the Grade Two Old Roan Handicap Chase at Aintree off a mark of 146, but he was another who got a little lost in the wet winter months as he doesn’t really appreciate properly soft ground. Returning to action at the Punchestown Festival in May however, he showed much more pleasing signs to finish fourth behind Lets Go Champ.

He’s a Horse who usually goes fresh, and now finds himself rated only 1lb higher than when winning at Aintree last October.

LONG SHOT:

Chepstow – ACT OF AUTHORITY

BET NOW

One who will hopefully be a bit of a price in the Silver Trophy is Act Of Authority, who enjoyed a very productive first campaign over Hurdles last season.

An easy winner on his Hurdles debut this time last year, he went on to win on two further occasions – back at Bangor in December following a sixth place in the Grade Two Supreme Trial at Cheltenham, and then under a double penalty at Wetherby in March when finally stepped up in distance to 2m3½f. That sort of distance looks to be exactly what he wants these days, and when dropped back in trip to 2m at Sandown on the final day of the season he looked in need of further when finishing a decent sixth behind Helnwein et al.

If the ground stays on the soft side, he will have a big chance off 128 for Olly Murphy.
