This Grade 2 contest has cut up a fair amount from the entries stage, and Western Knight is taken to build upon his promising Hurdles career to date.
This six-year-old has already won twice - beating dual subsequent winner Julius Des Pictons (123) over 2m4f at Uttoxeter before then giving 5lbs and a beating to Excello (142 Chaser) over 2m5½f at Ascot. He was last seen running in the 3m Grade 2 Bristol Novice Hurdle at Cheltenham in December, where he ran on strongly from off the pace when only beaten by French raider Jet Blue. Now in a weaker contest with experience on his side, he can get the job done in the River Don.
Sent off a very well fancied 3/1f for the PaddyPower Gold Cup in November, Ginny’s Destiny can finally make amends now back on his beloved New Course.
This Paul Nicholls charge has run six times over fences at Cheltenham, with his record on the Old Course reading 01P. If you compare that to the New Course however his form figures are instead 112, with that second coming in the Grade 1 Turners Novice Chase when narrowly denied by Grey Dawning (164) last March. Considering he won the Novice Handicap on this card 12 months ago everything looks in his favour this time, and you'd have to say his run in the Grade 2 Peterborough Chase last time out was a much improved effort - yet the Handicapper dropped him a further 2lbs to a mark of 152 which looks very workable.
Despite him being an each/way play, Bowtogreatness seems to have almost everything in his favour in the Great Yorkshire.
This Ben Pauling nine-year-old has been a bit of a nearly horse in his career to date, but two starts ago he finally got off the mark over fences when winning at Newbury off 129. Doncaster this Saturday should provide his perfect conditions however - a flat left-handed track over the bare 3m on some decent ground, with first-time cheek-pieces fitted for good measure. From a Handicapping point of view, he also looks nicely treated - just 2lbs higher than his last win, and 2lbs lower than when third in the Premier Coral Trophy at Kempton last February. That means he is now 10lbs better off with Forward Plan, too.
