I’m very keen on the chances of Joyeuse here, as she looks like a very well Handicapped Mare.
This five-year-old managed to beat Tutti Quanti (125) despite giving him 6lbs on her UK debut at Taunton in January, and after a long 319-day absence she ran a cracker at Ascot last month when third behind Celtic Dino (134). She shaped as if she would appreciate a step up in trip there, and off a mark of 119 she surely can win this.
I thought No Risk With Lou was running in a much better race than this last time out over course and distance, and he came there absolutely tanking before unseating four from home.
Apart from that mishap he looked like he was going to bolt up, but he can make amends here in a much weaker race – especially as the form of his Huntingdon win at the beginning of last month is working out well.
I’ll give one last chance to In Excelsis Deo in the December Gold Cup following his unseat in the Paddy Power Gold Cup last month.
This six-year-old should love the switch to the New Course at Cheltenham this weekend as all his best form has come on this track – second to Madara (6lbs better off) in the 2m Handicap Chase on this card last year, fifth in the Plate at the Cheltenham Festival, and winner of the Grade Two Silver Trophy in April. He will appreciate the drying ground here more than most.
