Trainer Chris Gordon won this race two years ago with a similar type to Our Champ, who returns this year after going off favourite for this last year before finishing fifth on ground softer than ideal.
He won what looked a competitive handicap at Plumpton easily back in March and has had excuses both starts since, going hard from the front when well fancied at Cheltenham in April and when needing the run last time on seasonal debut after a 164-day break. Everything looks set for a big effort here.
Hidden Depths is very interesting here having crept in to the bottom of the handicap with the handicapper being pretty lenient only putting him up 7lbs for two wins recently. He’s getting better with every run and conditions will be perfect here also for a yard who’s been flying this season.
Malystic struggled at the start of last season but finished the season strongly, looking nicely handicapped in slight defeats. Started this season very brightly beaten a head but a very progressive Briezh River who he gave plenty of weight to and they pulled a long way clear of the rest.
Jonathan Burke is an interesting booking for the yard who he rarely rides for and who has a good record at the track.
