Saturday Horse Racing Predictions by Stephen Harris at Kelso, Doncaster and Newbury
Olly Murphy’s unexposed young chaser impressed with his jumping when winning a small field contest on his debut in this sphere at Uttoxeter in October (edging out the useful Pembroke in a tight finish), and he has shaped better than the bare result in recent runs in warm company.
He remains open to plenty more improvement after just four runs over fences so far, and this represents a great chance to get back in the winning groove upped to 2m5f under the championship-chasing Sean Bowen (with testing ground sure to suit and this handicap looking pretty weak for the grade).
Harry Derham has made a fantastic start to his fledgling training career, and his novice looks very well treated now tackling handicaps for the first time at Doncaster on Saturday. She made a winning start at Market Rasen last March over hurdles, and her two efforts since returning from a break have both been fairly promising under the penalty.
The excellent 5lb claimer Alice Stevens has been booked for the ride, and most of these Class 4 rivals have a very opposable look at the prices.
Ben Case’s chaser has had excuses for two recent pulled-up efforts this winter (bad blunder/non stayer 3m5f), and he shaped very well when a clear third on his seasonal debut at Chepstow in December behind Nassalam.
That form looks strong for the grade, with the winner well ahead of his mark, and the testing ground expected at Newbury on Saturday should suit ideally back in trip to 2m4f. Jack Quinlan is back in the saddle, and this looks a great opportunity to dominate from the tape.
