Saturday Horse Racing Predictions by Stephen Harris at Chester and Bath
Harry Eustace is a young trainer worth keeping on side of over the next few turf seasons, and his progressive stayer is fancied to defy a career high mark at Chester on Saturday. He made most of the running and found plenty for pressure to win a warm Doncaster handicap last time out, and another positive ride from the front should make him very hard to pass up the short straight (with the talented George Wood a good booking for the ride and this track emphatically favouring positive tactics).
Marko Gillard’s frustrating sprinter has only won 1 of his 35 career starts, but he has been running very well in defeat recently and this sharpest of five furlong tracks clearly suits ideally. He has been inched up a 1lb for a narrow course defeat last month (looking an unlucky loser as he flew home from well off the pace), but his present wellbeing is likely to be a more important factor against some extremely opposable Class 6 rivals (with the canny veteran jockey John Egan booked for the ride).
Harry Charlton’s filly improved dramatically to win twice on the all-weather in the spring, and translated that level to the turf when a never-dangerous fourth from off the pace at Newbury last time out (soon poorly positioned initially with too much ground to make up). She remains with scope to do a good deal better in handicaps over middle distances this summer, and a positive ride around this sharp course can see her get back on the winning trail under Trevor Whelan.
