Racing Lee’s Sussex Stakes Day Tips
A group one winner last season, he returned in a strong renewal of the 2000 Guineas, which is worked out brilliantly. He ran second having not had a seasonal run, compared to the winner who had three runs this year. He went and won the Irish Guineas with a powerful turn of foot, and again showed that when winning the St James’s Palace at Royal Ascot beating the re-opposing Henry Longfellow.
He’s a strong play on day two of the Goodwood Festival.
One of the highest rated, and received weight from the older brigade, Kathmandu now drops in class for this. A seven-furlong winner from her five starts, she returned in the Group Three Nell-Gwyn and ran a solid third. The second was second in the Epsom Oaks after, and even the eighth has won a listed race since. She went up to a mile for the French Guineas and was beaten a head in that Group One.
Last time out she mixed it with the boys in a Group One and ran a solid race, just beaten over three lengths. She now returns to a Group Three against the fillies, and I can see her running close in this.
He’s a great price each-way if you're a forgiving type. He bombed out last time out at Royal Ascot having stopped quickly, but he was a debut winner the time before. He won a good race with the form being franked, and the second, third and fourth have all won since.
Forgive his last run and he will have a good shout at the prices.
