Last year’s Dewhurst runner-up has put in two solid displays this season. The Dewhurst winner was no less than Derby and Eclipse winner City Of Troy. The seasonal debut return was in the strong renewal of the 2000 Guineas, which has produced winner after winner, and at the highest level. The selection was beaten fourth lengths into fifth in that contest.

His latest run came at the Royal meeting in the Group One St James’s Palace over the mile, again fifth behind solid performers in Rosallion and Henry Longfellow.

He now steps up in trip, he’s the choice of retained jockey Jim Crowley and takes a drop in grade.

Newbury – REGIONAL

The class dropper is Regional, and if ready to go then should run a big race once again. A solid performer last season, with three wins including and ending with the Group One Sprint Cup at Haydock. That day he beat the solid Group performer Shouldvebeenaring, recent Group One runner-up, Swingalong, Royal Ascot Group One winner Khaadem, and Group One Newmarket conquer Mill Stream were all in behind.

The selection started this season at the Curragh when second in the Greenland Stakes, before going to Royal Ascot and running a huge race when second in the Group One kings Stand. The re-opposing Twilight Calls was a few lengths behind on that occasion.

It all points to a big run returning to Group Three company.

LONG SHOT:

Market Rasen – MAGICAL MAGGIE

A little bit of a wild card, but Magical Maggie is back on her last winning mark, and hopefully can outrun her odds. She last won off this mark by 14 lengths in a Class Two.

She’s adaptable ground wise if the weather changes, and she drops back a couple of furlongs to her winning trip. She’s worth a small each-way play in an open race.
