Racing Lee's Saturday Racing Tips at Ascot and Newcastle
I’m happy to take on the current market leader in Auguste Rodin, and I’m going in with Rebel’s Romance to be the leader of the pack. Bang there on the figures, he produced a fine display last time out when powering home in the Group One at Sha Tin, winning it readily. That was over this trip and it’s a trip he stays very well.
He comes here on a five-timer, and although mainly campaigned overseas, his yard is in red-hot form, and should go close back on home turf.
Slowly away seems to be a theme now, but if getting away on terms this dual winner here at Newcastle should go well. He must give plenty of weight away but is fairly consistent. He’s a multiple all-weather winner at Lingfield, and at this course including last summer. He took that course and distance race before contesting the Northumberland Plate consolation race, the Northumberland Vase, only fading late on over a longer trip.
His mark doesn’t leave much room for error, but hopefully back at the scene of those wins he can go well.
Gets in off bottom weight, and only nudged up a pound for a last time out win, Bateman should be using his good stall draw to his advantage. He’s got the assistance of Rhys Elliott, who’s taking off seven pounds so he’s very well in, for all that it is a competitive race.
It’s also a step up in class, but this lightly raced gelding should run a bold race.
