JAKE PRICE’S SATURDAY PUNCHESTOWN TIPS
She's danced every dance as a Juvenile and has always been on the premise, but providing she has one more race in her then Kargese will have to take all the beating back on some quicker ground.
Winner of the Grade 1 Spring Juvenile Hurdle at the Dublin Racing Festival, she was caught out by the Heavy ground at Cheltenham when travelling best and just unable to see out her effort when finishing a gallant second to stablemate Majborough. She again ran really well at Aintree last month when second to Sir Gino, and again she travelled like the winner despite encountering soft ground.
The quick ground at Punchestown will surely help her drastically, and Paul Townend rides once again in what looks a much weaker race.
I've been waiting a while to see Bowtogreatness return to action, and I think it's fascinating that connections are trying him over a marathon trip for the first time.
This eight-year-old went so close to winning the Grade 3 Coral Trophy at Kempton in February off a mark of 133 when the jockey reported his mount lacked some fitness, and I can forgive him for getting a bit lost in the Kim Muir on Soft ground when he was badly hampered at the first. Some nicer ground and a flatter track will suit him better however, and off an Irish handicap mark of 130 he's surely well treated.
It's also worth noting he missed the first half of the season due to an injury, so he shouldn't be over-the-top here unlike some of the runners we have seen at Punchestown this week.
This is a very competitive Handicap Hurdle, but I do want to give a chance last weekend's Non-Runner Gold Dancer.
This five-year-old was recruited from France following an easy win at Compiegne in May last year, moving across to Willie Mullins. In two starts to date for his new stable he's twice ran in Graded contests, firstly finishing down the field in the 2m Grade 1 Novice Hurdle at the Dublin Racing Festival, before more recently finishing 4th in the Grade 2 at Fairyhouse.
Better ground than he's faced so far this season will surely suit this son of Doctor Dino, and an opening Handicap mark of just 130 looks tantalising to my eye.
