Cheltenham – FACILE VEGA

Thu 14 Mar, 13:30

view details

It’s very much the English vs Facile Vega in the Turners this year, but I fancy Willie Mullins’ enigmatic Chaser to rise above these lot on his first start over two-and-a-half miles.

Kept over two miles for his whole career so far to date, this 7yo has already won the Champion Bumper and finished 2nd in the Supreme on two visits to Presbury Park. Having had a mixed season over fences and latterly finishing 3rd behind Il Etait Temps and Found A Fifty in the Grade 1 Arkle Trial however, I think the angle with him is that he finally gets to step up in trip as his breeding suggest he needs. If he finds further improvement, he will be hard to beat under Paul Townend.

NEXT BEST:

Cheltenham – CREBILLY

I have been on Crebilly for a long time now, and although he is ridiculously short in the betting currently, he clearly has strong claims.

A faller on Chase debut at Cheltenham when looking like he’d have a chance of beating Ginny’s Destiny (155), this 7yo very much needed his next start in December when jumping a bit indifferently – but it was a perfect confidence booster when 4th behind Ginny’s, Grey Dawning (153) and Trelawne (144). Last time out at Exeter however he was back to jumping fluently, and he was a good winner from Tahmuras and Trelawne – so a mark of 140 looks unbelievable on Handicap debut.

LONG SHOT:

Cheltenham – WHERE IT ALL BEGAN

Thu 14 Mar, 17:30

view details

The ground has come up perfect for Where it All Began, and he is a strong each/way fancy under Barry O’Neill.

Last time out this 8yo was seen winning the Irish Grand National Trial at Punchestown by a massive 16 lengths, and before that he has a good piece of form when trying to give Intense Raffles (140) 5lbs and finishing a gallant 2nd. He was put up to an Irish mark of 135 for that win but has been left on the same mark in Britain and looks a strong chance for Gordon Elliott.
