Norwich vs Stoke City – Norwich to win

After recent dropped points against Derby and Preston North End, Norwich City are out to rediscover their knack of home dominance, with only leaders Leeds having scored more goals than Johannes Hoff Thorup’s side on familiar soil.

Generally, the Canaries are a different team when talisman Josh Sargent is available, not just because of his goalscoring instincts, but also his infectious energy, selflessness, and link-up play – the American is the most complete centre-forward in the Championship and makes everyone around him better.

Plus, while influential midfielders Kenny McLean and Marcelino Nunez have been absent of late, Thorup hopes at least one of them could be available to add knowhow to a largely youthful midfield.

So, they might not be hot in form right now, but the play-off outsiders still look a solid bet to beat Stoke, who have been looking over their shoulders all season.

Wycombe vs Wigan – Wycombe to win

Wycombe head coach Mike Dodds got his first victory in charge on Tuesday night, his first home game, enjoying a 2-0 victory over Bristol Rovers, after beginning league action with a 1-1 draw at Crawley.

The performance in Sussex was lacking creativity from deep, but Hull loanee Xavier Simons brought that in spades after coming in for Luke Leahy, to complement terrier Josh Scowen, and star Cameron Humphreys.

It was a great night for the Chairboys, with third-place Wrexham losing at home to Leyton Orient, meaning they opened up a five-point cushion in the automatic promotion race, on an evening that could have seen them drop one point off.

This trip to Adams Park is a tough assignment, therefore, for Wigan, who have won just two of their last nine league games and haven’t threatened the top half all season.

Notts County vs Tranmere – Notts County to win

There was midweek disappointment for Notts County, who could only manage a 1-1 draw with Colchester after taking an early lead, but it’s still 26 points from 12 games for Stuart Maynard’s side – maintain that form in the next 12 and a top three finish awaits.

Maynard could be tempted to bring January recruits Charlie Whitaker and Will Jarvis into the XI for fresh creativity, after both featured from the bench in midweek – the former is an agile link-up man, while the latter brings pace and directness.

Pace and directness are two things Tranmere have been sorely lacking this season, with Nigel Adkins’ side suffering desperately from the loss of last year’s star Blackpool loanee, Rob Apter, and are plummeting towards the drop zone.

Adkins is arguably largely culpable for awful form, which currently reads one win in 12, and the perception is that owner Mark Palios hasn’t sacked him because he expected a takeover to go through earlier, and that somebody else might incur that cost.
