QPR vs Sheffield United – Sheffield United to win

Sheffield United’s automatic promotion ambitions took a hit with Monday’s 3-1 defeat at home to title favourites Leeds, combined with Burnley’s 4-0 win the previous Friday, but Chris Wilder’s side still have a two-point buffer.

Having won seven of their last nine league games, five by a solitary goal, the Blades have established a knack of edging out tight encounters, helped by having arguably the best goalkeeper in the Championship in Michael Cooper.

The Steel City outfit have top-end quality in midfielder Vinicius Souza, samba star Gus Hamer, flair winger Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, and forwards Tom Cannon and Ben Brereton-Diaz, both with a history of catching fire at this level, while Tyrese Campbell is also in decent goalscoring form.

With that in mind, United should get the three points at Loftus Road, with hosts QPR having lost four of their last six, looking destined for midtable.

Crawley Town vs Cambridge – Cambridge to win

The fact Cambridge are bottom of League One, eight points adrift of safety, is something of a red herring – strange as that might sound.

The feeling around the club has been transformed since manager Garry Monk left, with club legend Mark Bonner returning as Director of Football, and Neil Harris, also returning as head coach, with the duo looking to have a strong rapport in their first press conference.

The theory is backed up by performances on the pitch, Saturday’s 2-0 win over promotion contenders Stockport: just one game, sure, but there are enough positive vibes to think the U’s should be judged as a different entity following the change.

The CB5 outfit are certainly more likely to beat the drop than Crawley, who have won just two of their last 14. They’re trying to play their way out of trouble, which might be unrealistic for their level of quality relative to the rest of the league.

Wimbledon vs Bromley – Wimbledon to win

Boasting League Two’s best defensive record, Wimbledon have been in and around the promotion race all season, but they’ve gone up another gear since Christmas, taking 23 points from 11 games.

The Dons have always been a functional, efficient team with a potent front-pair in selfless target man Omar Bugiel and prolific poacher Matty Stevens, but the return of Jake Reeves from injury, and the addition of Marcus Browne, has given them new layers of guile on top of those strong core ingredients.

Reeves brings class at the base of midfield, helping Johnnie Jackson’s side look after the ball and manage games in different ways, while Browne has brought fresh central creativity, making them less reliant on crosses and long balls to Bugiel.

With that in mind, the Wombles should have what it takes to beat midtable Bromley, who could conclude an impressive maiden season in the Football League with a top half finish to show for it.
