Ascot – GOLDEN ACE

Sat 23 Nov, 14:45

BET NOW

I’m very excited to see Golden Ace back in action, and considering she’s rated 144 yet gets 10lbs from last year’s winner Blueking D’Oroux, she’s surely the play.

Not only did she win a very strong renewal of the Mares Novice (beating Brighterdaysahead and Jade De Grugy) in good style, but she also then stepped up in trip for a Listed 2m4½f Novice Hurdle at Cheltenham in April where she absolutely hacked up – and the second and third have both won good races this Autumn since.

2m3½f around Ascot should be absolutely ideal, and she’s such a strong traveler, with plenty of pace should it turn into a bit of a sprint too. My only real concern is how ready she will be first time up as she did have a bit of a hold up in the early part of the Autumn – but this looks an ideal starting point, and if she wins it well it really does lay down her Mares Hurdle credentials.

NEXT BEST:

Ascot – SANS BRUIT

Sat 23 Nov, 15:20

BET NOW

I’m all over Sans Bruit here, who has his ground, a nice handicap mark, and now a run under his belt.

The ground at Ascot is currently Good to Soft, but 9-10mm is due on Saturday and that should play right into his hands. I loved him at Aintree in the Red Rum where he did everything to beat Saint Roi (162) by four lengths readily, and I thought he ran a lovely race in the Haldon Gold Cup when finishing third on ground that simply was too quick.

Harry Cobden has shown himself to be mustard from the front over the past few days, and he finally gets a go on him. 139 still underestimates his ability in my book, and this doesn’t look a vintage Hurst Park considering Martator is the top weight off 140 having won off 134 at the last Ascot meeting.

LONG SHOT:

Ascot – MIDNIGHTREFLECTION

Sat 23 Nov, 12:55

BET NOW

Midnightreflection won this race last year off a mark of 122, and she has also won off marks of 121, 129 and 120 in the past, reaching a peak OR of 134.

This admirable sort now finds herself down to a lowly mark of 114 however, having had a spin around Ludlow 16 days ago (she also had a spin 16 days before winning this last year), and Charlie Case takes off a further 7lbs to boot.

She’d want to be a big enough price to entice a bet considering she’s shown little since finishing 6th at Kempton the race following her Ascot win, but she is chucked in if back to her form of 12 months ago.
