This does look a competitive race, but hopefully that just means that Celtic Dino returns a decent price as I am very taken by this Horse!
Sam Thomas’ five-year-old was impressive on his racecourse debut when taking out a Bumper at Ascot last November by 4.25 lengths, and on his next start he was a good third in a Listed race at the same track behind Let It Rain and Brechin Castle. He won another Bumper in the Spring, but on his Hurdles debut last month he absolutely bolted up at Wincanton by 14 lengths – beating Ma Shantou who has since won very easily at Warwick. The third and fouth have also won since too, and he should take all the beating despite stepping up in class on Friday.
This Mare developed nicely over fences last season, winning at Ludlow in February before placing third in the Premier Novice Handicap Chase at Sandown in March. She absolutely bolted up at Ludlow after that, then on the final day of the season she looked set to score off a mark of 123 when absolutely cantering all over Martator - but she just crumpled on landing at the penultimate flight. If she had gone on to win that then there's little doubt in my mind, she would be rated in the 130s, and Martator (140) obviously boosted the form since by winning the 2m Premier Handicap Chase at Ascot.
Terresita took another massive step forward at Carlisle last month when winning a Listed race despite only being rated 125, and a 10lbs rise to only 135 puts her in the ballpark of where she'd have been rated had she not fallen at Sandown.
Olly Murphy has been in flying form lately (30% strike rate), and a notable source of his winners is improving ex-Anthony Charlton horses such as Westerninthepark and even Ikarak this week. The latest off that line is Alnilam, who looks to hold strong claims here.
Rated 77 on the Flat, he’s won twice over Hurdles including on debut for Olly in March at Kelso. He clearly didn’t stay 2m4f at Aintree in May, but dropped back to 2m at Wetherby last month in a first time hood he ran a belter – finishing only half a length behind Williethebuilder (130). Had he not pecked on landing so badly at the last that day however he probably would have won the race, and he is now 3lbs better off with that rival despite such a narrow defeat. Sean Bowen is probably the best Jockey around at the moment.
