Kyprios has carried all before him so far, he’s 14 wins from 18 starts, and I have no reason to desert him now. He was just denied in this race by the r-opposing Trawlerman last year, but that was off the back of an interrupted season.

He can confirm the Gold Cup running with that horse by winning this race and making it seven straight wins this season.

The two big guns come to the fore in arguably the best race of the day. Economics comes off the back of winning the Irish Champions Stakes at Leopardstown. He but the multiple Grade One, and last year's Derby winner Auguste Rodin, but I think he was given the best race on the day, and the form of Calandagan maybe stronger.

He ran second to this season’s Derby winner City Of Troy, who is at the top of his game having also won the Eclipse prior to that Juddmonte win. Fourth that day was Arc winner Bluestocking, and I prefer the French raider, won bolted up over the trip at Royal Ascot. A fascinating clash awaits.

Ascot – QUANTANAMERA

A chance is taken against the short-priced favourite. Kalpana has done extremely well this season, but her last two runs were against weak opposition, and it was a Listed and Group Three she won the last two runs. She will need to step it up again, and I think the proven soft ground-lover Quantanamera can run a big race.

She’s got more experience than the favourite having had an extra five runs. And when stepped back to this trip for the first time this season, she bolted up on “very soft” in a Group Two, beating the Gosden’s, Arrest by four easy lengths. She’s worth an each way play on the ground.
