There has only been one meeting at Windsor since the Jumps returned to the Royal venue, and on that card Hasthing was an impressive winner.

He has always been a promising young Horse having finished third in the Grade Two Bumper at Aintree before as a Novice Hurdler being sent off 3/1f for the EBF Final at Sandown - but chasing was always going to be his game. His debut at Chepstow in November came over a trip too short but stepped up to 2m4f 33 days ago showing a great attitude to come away from the field in the closing stages. Stepping up in trip again to 2m6f here looks key to finding further improvement off his mark of 125.

Joe Tizzard’s Mare Ilovethenightlife has been mixing it in good company so far this season, and back in a Handicap I think she can go in again.

Third behind El Elfante on Chase debut, she made her Handicap Chase debut at Kempton in November off a mark of 124 where in the dying embers of the race she managed to usurp longtime leader Sacre Coeur (131), with the pair pulling 19 lengths clear of the remainder. She then stepped up into Listed class on her latest outing, where again she stayed on strongly - this time finishing a head behind You Wear It Well (137) in a race dominated by Cherie d’Am (136). Back into Handicaps however she is only rated 3lbs higher than Kempton, and Windsor on drying ground should suit her well. Sam Twiston-Davies is a good jockey booking.

LONG SHOT:

Windsor –
HANSARD

I thought that Hansard was a real eye-catcher on his return to action at Kempton over Christmas, and if building upon that he ought to be going very close in the Sovereign.

This Gary and Josh Moore charge won the Premier Gerry Fielden Handicap Hurdle at Newbury last season off a mark of 138, with dual subsequent winner Brentford Hope (148, 9lbs worse off here) behind. He was then a good fifth in another Premier Handicap at Ascot off 142, but that would be his last run for 370 days. As I mentioned I thought he shaped really nicely at Kempton 21 days ago, where he travelled really strongly into the contest before being looked after once his winning chance had gone - only being given one tap of the stick. He’ll surely come on for that run and have a big pot like this on his agenda.
