Leicester clinched the Championship title on Monday night as they cruised to a 3-0 victory at Preston. The win illustrated the strength in depth at Enzo Maresca’s disposal with key personnel like Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Stephy Mavididi rested to the bench. But Jamie Vardy showed he is as hungry as ever with the opening two goals, his fourth in the last three games and his 18th of another stellar season. Is it risky taking a team who have just clinched the title? I don’t think so with Maresca not looking like the kind of manager to let standards slip. There will be a party atmosphere at the King Power with the Championship trophy being presented after the game and the small matter of a win taking the Foxes to 100 points.

Blackburn do still have the possibility of being relegated but would need all three sides below them to pick up positive results for that to be the case. Rovers had manager John Eustace sent off as they drew 0-0 with Coventry so he will be missing from the technical area. Expect Leicester to show why they have been the best side in the division throughout the campaign and sign off in style.

Swansea City vs Millwall

This game is a dead rubber with Swansea long since destined for a mid-table finish and the Lions guaranteeing their Championship status two games ago. One to avoid normally but the Swans don’t seem to be “on the beach” just yet as they put a good run of form together under Luke Williams. The latest of which coming at play-off chasing Norwich where they were very impressive for much of the contest before having to settle for a share of the spoils. That draw ended a run of three successive wins, but their boss immediately stated, “the target is to win the last one”.

Millwall’s upturn in fortunes under Neil Harris has seen them win their last four games has largely been down to their home form. Three of those victories were at The Den with the other being away at a Sunderland side with two wins from their last 14. Prior to that success the Lions had lost three road games on the spin and six of eight. I’ve liked what I have seen of Swansea, and they can take all three points here to complete a double over opponents they beat 3-0 in the reverse fixture.

West Bromwich vs Preston North End

I have already mentioned Preston and I am happy to take them on here with a West Brom side that have somehow not cemented a playoff spot just yet. With defeat against Leicester the Lilywhites lost a fourth consecutive match without scoring and it appears the season cannot end soon enough for them. After their last away day (defeat at QPR) manager Ryan Lowe claimed he didn’t recognise his team admitting they weren’t good enough with or without the ball.

After a third consecutive defeat West Brom are only two points clear of seventh placed Hull and although with a much superior goal difference will want a win here to make sure and take some positive momentum into the play-offs. Carlos Corberan knows the expectation on his team, and they will deliver that against this North End side that are devoid of any spark. I’m sure he will draw on the positive vibes from the reverse fixture in September. An emphatic 4-0 victory which saw the Baggies become the first side to defeat Preston this term and in doing so end the last unbeaten record in the Championship in the ninth round of matches.
